Progressive Labour Markets Workshop

Thursday, 27 June, 2013 - 09:00
Brussels, Belgium

As the first themed event of our Progressive Economy series, this roundtable will focus on the theme of Progressive Labour Markets. It is intended to be the starting point for further expert and policy work on this key theme in the months to come, to identify research needs as well as policy orientations and action in the run-up to the initiative's major Annual Conference to be held in March 2014.

This high-level panel will explore which kind of so-called active labour-market policies are best suited (and feasible) in the coming years, faced with high youth unemployment and long-term unemployment, low growth and limited budgetary resources. We also want to explore in detail the notion of "flexible" labour markets from a progressive perspective, and the question of whether or not a progressive, flexible labour market is a contradiction in terms.
